How we make our linen placemats
The idea for our Lara placemats began with the offcuts left after making products in special sizes. LinenMe is committed to reducing waste, so instead of discarding these smaller pieces, we developed a useful new product for them. Offcuts that are too small for larger accessories can become part of our LinenUs approach to making better use of material.
Our artisans combine design knowledge with handcraft. Each placemat is made from 100% pure linen, including the fabric and threads, and one worker can make only around five to six pieces a day. That slower pace is part of the value: every placemat receives care, attention and the character of genuine craftsmanship.
Using what we already have is one practical way to reduce textile waste. Buying fewer, better-made pieces, reusing and repurposing textiles, donating unwanted items, swapping clothes, learning to mend and choosing pre-loved goods can all help. Brands also need to take responsibility for production waste, which is why LinenUs exists: to reuse suitable offcuts and move towards zero-waste production.
