Blue linen tunic styled for summer

A linen tunic can be the hero piece of a warm-weather wardrobe: relaxed enough for everyday wear, polished enough for work or dinner, and easy to layer when the temperature changes. The original article used LinenMe's Bianca tunic in Crown Blue as the capsule piece. Although exact colours and styles evolve, the same styling principles work for the linen dresses and tunics in a modern wardrobe.

Start with a tunic that gives you room to move without overwhelming your shape. Linen feels most comfortable when air can circulate, while a clean neckline and simple silhouette make the garment easier to dress up or down. These five outfit formulas show how one tunic can work harder across the week.

1. Make a linen tunic work-ready

The original work styling board paired the tunic with a Garmentory jacket, COS culottes, a Popsicle necklace, Zara boots and a Madewell bag. The useful idea is the balance: add one structured layer, keep the lower half streamlined and finish with shoes that feel intentional. A long blazer or neat cardigan works particularly well, while straight-leg linen trousers create an easy tonal outfit.

If your workplace is more relaxed, wear the tunic over narrow trousers and roll the sleeves once or twice. For a smarter setting, choose a belt or cropped jacket to define the waist without losing the ease of the linen.

2. Style it for lunch or a casual evening

The original evening combination used H&M trousers, Lotta from Stockholm clogs, an A.P.C. bag and an Everlane turtleneck. Keep that contrast between an easy tunic and a few sharper accessories. Cropped trousers, leather sandals or clogs and a compact bag make the outfit feel considered without becoming formal.

When the evening cools, add a fine knit beneath the tunic or a light jacket over it. Jewellery in one metal tone and a simple bag are enough to take the look from lunch to dinner.

3. Keep everyday outfits simple

The original everyday board combined Toast jeans, a Gap bag, Birkenstock sandals and a COS scarf. It is a reliable formula: wear the tunic with straight or slim jeans, flat sandals and one practical bag. If the tunic is long enough, leave it loose; if it is shorter or has side splits, a half-tuck or narrow belt can add definition.

A lightweight linen scarf adds colour without making the outfit feel heavy. Keep the rest of the palette simple so the texture of the linen remains the focus.

4. Wear it for the beach or a day trip

The original beach look featured Salt-Water sandals, a LinenMe scarf, & Other Stories sunglasses, an ASOS hat and a Herschel bag. The same approach still works: layer a loose tunic over swimwear, add comfortable sandals and carry a lightweight scarf for shade or a breezy café terrace.

For a full day out, choose a breathable cross-body or tote bag and keep jewellery minimal. A tunic with practical pockets is especially useful, and a relaxed linen dress can play the same role when you want a one-piece outfit.

5. Build a relaxed active-day outfit

The original active-day board paired the tunic with Gap leggings, Adidas trainers, a LinenMe bag and a Boden top. For school runs, dog walks or travel days, combine the tunic with leggings or soft trousers and supportive trainers. An oversized linen shirt can create a similar long-line silhouette when you want an open layer rather than a dress.

Choose a bag that leaves your hands free and add a light base layer if the weather is changeable. The aim is movement and comfort, not a highly styled finish.

Take the same tunic into cooler weather

A versatile linen tunic does not have to disappear at the end of summer. Add a chunky cardigan, brogues or ankle boots and opaque tights, or layer it over a fine roll-neck with trousers. Keeping the colours related helps the layers look deliberate.

Follow the garment's care label and wash linen with a gentle detergent. Reshape it while damp and air-dry where possible; steam or iron only if you prefer a crisper finish. Our detailed linen washing guide explains the safest approach.
