What Is European Flax®?

Tested for strength and provenance, it comes from European flax grown across the lowlands of Belgium, the Netherlands and Northern France. These coastal areas offer perfect conditions for growing the finest flax: a cool, damp climate, rich soil and a strong tradition of flax-growing expertise. Europe is the world's leading producer of linen fibre, which is used not only in textiles but in a wide range of industries. European flax fibres can be found in surfboards, tennis rackets and insulation, to name just a few applications for this incredibly versatile material.
Flax has been cultivated and used for thousands of years. The earliest known evidence comes from a cave and dates back to 36,000 BC, where traces of linen fibres were found in what appeared to be textiles. Today linen is one of the most luxurious and charming home-textile fabrics, prized for its natural creases, softness and durability.
European Linen: A Sustainable Choice

When you buy a product crafted from certified European linen, you are buying something that helps reduce our global carbon footprint. Flax helps renew the soil, captures CO2, uses only rainwater and requires no additional irrigation, fertilisers or pesticides during its 100-day growing cycle. The mechanical extraction process is environmentally friendly, and the fabric is entirely vegan.
A 2008 Commission report to the Council and European Parliament stated that flax and hemp crops have positive effects on the diversity of agricultural ecosystems and landscapes and offer a welcome break for soil quality. Few other fabrics can claim to actively support the environment in which they grow.
The Benefits Of European Linen
As well as impeccable environmental credentials, European linen-fabric production employs many people in rural areas with few other industries.
It benefits you too. Linen is hypoallergenic, antibacterial and highly absorbent, thanks to natural pectins that allow the fibres to absorb and release up to 20% of their weight in water. This means linen clothes and sheets not only wick moisture away from your skin but also help regulate body temperature, supporting comfort and better sleep cycles.
